Peonies In Bloom

Artist’s remarks: I was experimenting with heat set oils and took this reference photo from my garden. I’ve inherited a love of peonies and other flowers from my Grandma Esther and my mom. You would never believe such a beautiful full bloom comes from this round little ball of wax and petals.

Bad Hair Day

Artist’s remarks: I gather photos from acquaintances and friends. The permission to capture this image in oil came from visiting with waitstaff at a restaurant after a Thanksgiving holiday. The summer growth had been bleached and it had been raining. This set the stage for a delightful image.

The original reference photo had been taken by the catchers deceased father many years ago and had faded and yellowed. He had always wanted to have the photo restored. Old college rivals of K State and Washburn.

Artist’s remarks: A friend sent me this picture he took while traveling to Malaysia. Touring through a small village he took a quick snapshot of this procession. The mahout had trained the elephant to wait for the command to retrieve a tasty treat wrapped in banana leaves from his head. Patience and timing.
